Content: The aim of the course is to increase participants' confidence in using English in various everyday situations. The emphasis on conversation, role-play and group work is designed to improve participants' fluency and listening comprehension at the same time. Participants' vocabulary and ability to express themselves will be improved by simulating common situations experienced during a stay in an English-speaking country. Grammar is only used as a tool for communication.

Content: The aim of the course is to build additional competence and confidence in the use of English, especially in the workplace. The lessons will be mainly based on two-way communication, encouraging participants to use and deepen their language skills. Content: The aim of this course is to provide the necessary communication skills to succeed in an engineering environment. The vocabulary taught in this course is useful for all engineering disciplines such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, etc. Special emphasis is placed on the ability to describe technical products and processes. Exercises include presenting new products and writing a technical report.

Content: This course is for students at upper-intermediate level who want to refresh their general language skills. It focuses on developing fluency through speaking, expanding vocabulary, reviewing grammar topics like tenses and transitional phrases, and practicing writing through tasks related to lesson content
Modern teaching methods encourage active participation. ILIAS is frequently used for interactive activities such as forums or surveys. With the focus in class mainly on speaking, more individualized grammar, vocabulary and writing practice is done outside class.

Content: This course covers the core language skills needed to successfully communicate in either technical or industrial situations. It contains speaking tasks tasks, both prepared and spontaneous, plus two written tasks and is aimed at students studying engineering or other technical fields.
- Technical concepts are explained using motivating texts and illustrations.
- Topics reflect up-to-date technical developments and are relevant to students' needs.
- Core language, particularly technical vocabulary, covers a wide range of specializations.
Although grammar is regularly featured, it is not the main focus of the course.

Content: The aim of this course is to prepare students for working life by developing the skills they are likely to need. Topics include: meetings, presentations, negotiating, small talk, job applications, correspondence and teamwork.
There will be an emphasis on improving spoken English skills during in-class sessions. Students will be expected to use ILIAS to complete tasks outside class.

A number of general areas are explored including numbers & calculation, properties & materials and process descriptions. As this course provides a more general introduction to vocabulary and skills used in technical and scientific fields, we recommend taking it before other courses in technical English with advanced content (e.g. B2: Engineering).

Tasks include presenting a business idea, presenting a company and its products at a trade fair, managing a crisis, handling a press conference.

Content: This course is designed to prepare students for a range of English proficiency exams, including TOEFL iBT, IELTS, Cambridge exams and other internationally recognized language tests. Through weekly meetings, participants will engage in practice activities that mirror the various sections of these exams, including reading, writing, listening and speaking. The course will focus on developing skills required for each section, with tailored exercises and mock exams to simulate real test conditions. Content: Participants discuss the parts of a scientific paper: abstract, introduction, methods, results and discussion, and talk about subject-specific content e.g. results and / or methods. In and outside of class, there are writing tasks to practice the appropriate wording and style for each section. In small groups, participants compare theoretical guidelines to practices in their respective fields and share their findings in an online forum.

Content: This course aims to boost participants' spoken English skills, with a strong focus on speaking during each class. It covers a range of topics offering a supportive environment for overcoming language barriers and engaging in discussions. Additionally, students will be introduced to debating and will take part in a group debate on a topic chosen by the class. Online resources such as discussion forums will be used to encourage written debate outside class, so a willingness to use ILIAS and contribute is necessary.

Content: This advanced C2 General English course offers a dynamic approach for students seeking to refine their language skills. The curriculum employs a flipped classroom model, integrating online tasks outside class with in-class language feedback. Type of assessment: No final exam - the course is passed by completing a range of tasks such as forum postings, two proficiency language tests on ILIAS, a group writing task and a Pecha Kucha/Speed Geeking presentation.

Anticipate an immersive, collaborative learning environment with an emphasis on spoken communication in class.

Content: This course aims to boost participants' spoken English skills, with a strong focus on speaking during each class. Covering diverse topics, it fosters a supportive environment for overcoming language barriers and engaging in discussions. Additionally, students will be introduced to debating and will take part in a group debate on a topic chosen by the class. Online materials such as discussion forums will be used to encourage written debate outside class, so a willingness to use ILIAS and contribute is necessary.
Type of assessment: ECTS points are gained through regular, active participation and completing tasks such as debating, forums and self-assessments.
English for Innovative Engineering C2
Credit points: 2 ECTS

Content: This course is designed to improve each student's confidence and technical competence in using and understanding engineering terms, their context, and the methodology of engineering decision-making skills. Emphasis is placed on improving reading and listening comprehension skills, and on honing verbal skills in both technical and casual contexts.
Each participant will need to do research and explain their findings in an English only setting. Working in pairs, students will prepare and conduct several technical briefings, and there is also ample opportunity to join in spontaneous whole-class discussions. In this way, students practice working in small teams defending their conclusions or filling in details as requested by class members.
This course is part of the Sustainable Qualification Certificate offered by FORUM.
Type of assessment: No final exam - the course mark is based on completing a range of tasks e.g. a series of prepared briefings, presentations and in class discussions, a progression of written documentation about the individually selected projects, and a final presentation.
Scientific Writing C2
Credit points: 2-3 ECTS

Content: Participants discuss the parts of an empirical research report (i.e. scientific paper): abstract, introduction, methods, results and discussion. At each stage, participants practice talking about subject-specific content, e.g. results and / or methods. In and outside of class, they complete writing tasks to practice the appropriate wording and style for each section. Participants collaborate in peer editing sessions to improve their texts and discover different approaches to writing tasks. In small groups, students also compare theoretical guidelines to practices in their respective fields and share their findings in an online forum.
Type of assessment: No final exam - the course grade is based on completing a range of tasks e.g. summarizing and evaluating literature, writing a methods section, writing a results and discussion section, and writing an abstract.
English with TED Talks

Content: English with TED Talks is an advanced-level course designed to enhance oral communication skills through the analysis and discussion of TED Talks. Students will explore a range of thought-provoking themes, examining both the content and delivery of the talks. The course combines structured discussions with practical exercises, including presentations and some written tasks, to develop critical thinking, articulation, and persuasive communication in an academic and professional context.
Method of assessment: ECTS points are gained by completing a range of tasks, which will be outlined in class. Individual preparation and regular participation are necessary to get the most out of this course.
Business Leadership

Content: This dynamic course is suitable for students from any faculty who want to improve their English skills through creative teamwork in a variety of situations. Participants work in groups to represent a fictional company's management team and deal with various case studies and other realistic business scenarios. Tasks include presenting a business idea, presenting a company and its products at a trade fair, managing a crisis and handling a press conference. Language feedback is provided on written tasks as well as presentations and speaking tasks.
Type of assessment: No final exam - passing involves completing a range of tasks which are explained in more detail in class. Regular participation is therefore important, as the ECTS points are determined by continuous assessment and active involvement in the course.

Type of assessment: No final exam - passing involves completing a range of tasks including short ILIAS tests, written task uploads, a mock job interview and a meeting role-play.
English Boot Camp C1-C2

Content: The C1-C2 Boot Camps are currently only offered as an intensive course and is designed to get your spoken English top fit through highly interactive and focused sessions. Each class prioritizes active speaking practice and the course explores a wide range of engaging topics. You will be challenged to advance your language skills by placing you in new and dynamic situations, enhancing your confidence and proficiency in discussions and presentations.
In addition to in-class activities, online materials, including ILIAS forums, are used to support your learning and practice outside of class. Boots are not required!
Autumn Boot Camp will be offered at the end of summer semester (early October) and Spring Boot Camp will be offered at the end of winter semester (early April). The courses have different content and credit points can be gained from both.
Type of assessment: No final exam. Credit points are achieved by regular attendance and completing tasks such as written assignments and forums.
