Course Content
Course Description: Korean for Beginners with No Prior Knowledge (A1.1)
This course begins by teaching the basics of the Korean writing system (Hangeul), including consonants and vowels.
Another focus is on basic pronunciation rules, which enable participants to read and write Korean words and sentences correctly.
As the semester progresses, students will systematically build a basic vocabulary and learn essential grammatical structures.
The target of the course is to enable students to confidently carry out simple everyday conversations in Korean by the end of the semester.
Communicative Topics:
- Greetings and self-introduction: names, nationality, languages, and occupations.
- Family: Talking about one’s own family.
- Everyday objects: Questions and answers about various objects.
- Number systems: Using purely Korean and Sino-Korean numbers as well as the corresponding counting words.
- Time and Time Expressions: Expressing the time in Korean.
Grammar Focus:
- Sentence Structure and Copula: The verb “to be” (이다) and the negation “not to be” (아니다).
- Particles: Topic marker (은/는), subject particle (이/가), and object particle (을/를).
- Demonstrative pronouns: 이/그/저 (this/that/that one) and the possessive marker 의.
- Existence and location: 있다/없다 (to exist/not to exist), location expressions, and the locative particles 에 and 에서.
