This course is suitable for all beginners with little or no prior knowledge.

Course Content

• Basic knowledge of pronunciation and characters

• Basic grammatical concepts

• Everyday language for common situations, e.g., greetings, introducing yourself and your family, shopping, going out to eat...

• Cultural topics covered in the course material

• Singing Chinese songs

Preparation for the HSK exam — After the course, students have the option to take Level 1 of the HSK exam—an internationally recognized standard test for Chinese—in Karlsruhe and earn a certificate.

You earn two ECTS credits by passing the course exam.

The course simultaneously develops listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. You’ll also learn how to learn.

The textbook will be announced during the first class.

Chinese 2a, 2b

For advanced students; continuation of Chinese 1a, 1b, and 1c

Follow-up course for Courses 1a, 1b, and 1c; also suitable for students switching from other fields. Through realistic exercises, students can develop, among other things, more flexible and complex communication skills.

• Further pronunciation exercises

• Expansion and consolidation of Chinese grammar with review of previously learned material

• Vocabulary expansion with review of previously learned material

• Promoting the ability to apply the grammar and vocabulary learned in various contexts

• Additional basic characters

• Cultural studies covered in the course material

• Additional elements of Chinese culture

• Preparation for the HSK exam — After completing the course, students have the option to take Level 1 or 2 of the HSK exam—an internationally recognized standard exam for Chinese—in Karlsruhe and earn a certificate.

Chinese 3

for advanced learners; continuation of Chinese 2a and 2b

A continuation course for Chinese 2a and 2b, also suitable for students coming from other disciplines. Through realistic exercises, students can develop, among other things, more flexible and complex communication skills.

Content

• Gradual transition from Pinyin-based text sections to full character-based text

• Characters are explained and practiced individually

• Grammar is concisely reviewed, explained, and practiced

• Expansion of grammar and vocabulary

• Forming sentences with characters, writing short essays, and presenting them

• More communication in Chinese during class

• Theme-based cultural studies tailored to the course material and the students’ interests

• Preparation for Level 3 of the HSK exam

During the semester or after completing this course, students can take the corresponding HSK exam—an internationally recognized standard test for Chinese—in Karlsruhe and earn a certificate. Even participants who do not wish to take the HSK exam—or who plan to take it at a later date—can still build a solid foundation in the language through this course.

You earn two ECTS credits by passing the course exam.
Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills are developed simultaneously in the course. You also learn how to learn.

Chinese 4

for Advanced Learners; Continuation of Chinese 3

Follow-up course to Course 3; also suitable for students coming from other fields. Through realistic exercises, students will develop, among other things, more flexible and complex communication skills.

• Additional frequently used characters are explained and practiced

• Grammar is explained concisely and practiced in various ways

• Expansion of grammar and vocabulary

• Forming sentences with signs, writing short essays, and presenting them

• More communication in Chinese during class

• Theme-based cultural studies tailored to the course material and the students’ interests

• Preparation for Level 3 of the HSK exam

Depending on their prior knowledge, course participants have the opportunity to take the HSK Level 3 exam in Karlsruhe. The HSK is an internationally recognized standard exam for Chinese. Otherwise, participants will definitely build a solid foundation in the Chinese language based on the HSK Level 3 standard. From this foundation, you can continue to build your skills effectively.

The course simultaneously develops listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. You’ll also learn how to learn.

Chinese 5

for Advanced Learners; Continuation of Chinese 4

Depending on their prior knowledge, course participants have the opportunity to take the HSK Level 4 exam in Karlsruhe. HSK is an internationally recognized standard exam for Chinese. Even if you don’t take the exam, you’ll definitely build a solid foundation in the Chinese language, aligned with the HSK Level 4 standard. You can then build on this foundation effectively.
