German Sign Language 1 (for beginners with no previous knowledge)

German Sign Language(DGS) is an independent and complex language whose grammar differs fundamentally from German spoken and written language. DGS has been recognized as a fully-fledged language in Germany since 2002.

The course content includes

  • Natural gestures
  • Exercises on gestures, facial expressions and body language in DGS
  • Finger alphabet
  • Greetings/introductions
  • Basic vocabulary for everyday life/study
  • Numbers
  • Time indication

  • Leisure/hobbies
  • The city of Karlsruhe
  • Eating/drinking
  • Simple statements and interrogative sentences
