Course content

Japanese 1

For beginners with little or no previous knowledge

This course introduces the first elementary phrases, grammatical basics and the vocabulary needed in everyday life. Students receive an introduction to the Japanese writing system and learn the syllabary Hiragana. The course covers the following topics, among others:

  • introducing oneself

  • identifying people and things

  • predicate nouns

  • verb masu form

  • numbers

  • indications of time

  • Hiragana syllabary

  • Comparative and suplative

  • Indication of place (arimasu/imasu)

  • Counting unit suffixes

  • tenses

  • Syllabary Katakana
