Recognition of achievements abroad
The following information/documents are required (after your return to Karlsruhe) for the recommendation of recognition of language courses successfully completed at foreign universities as key qualifications at KIT:
- Name of the university abroad
- Course title and language level (according to GeR)
- Duration and scope (SWS) of the course
- Content of the course (detailed description)
- Type of certificate of achievement and certificate (with test result or percentage rating)
- ToR (Transcript of Records)
- Recognition form from your faculty
Official documents/evidence of the duration, content and assessment of performance (e.g. percentage assessment) are required for the recognition of coursework completed abroad. We cannot recommend recognition for courses for which only attendance but no performance assessment is documented.
For a beginners' course of 28 hours (45 minutes each), 2 ECTS are usually certified at the SpZ if attendance and a passed examination can be proven. This corresponds to a 'workload' of approx. 60 hours (including preparation and follow-up of the sessions).
The number of ECTS points certified by foreign educational institutions is usually higher than the number credited later at KIT. However, it also depends on the examination regulations of the faculty how many SQ-ECTS can be credited by foreign language acquisition.
We need to see the original certificate and require you to fill out a form for the recognition of credits earned abroad from your faculty (can be downloaded from the homepage of your faculty). Pre-confirmation of a Learning Agreement is possible if you provide us with course details (web links). Your faculty also has a form available for this purpose. (The latter is not a pre-approval, as we can only recommend approval to your faculty).
